When Anna reached out to me asking for some pictures of her and Nick I was so excited. They had got married last year but just did an intimate ceremony and did not have any professional pictures of themselves.The two of them were nervous at the beginning but were natural in front of the camera and we had a fun time! I asked Nick at the end how he felt, he said that was the longest he had ever been in front of the camera but it was a great experience, and didn't feel like it had been that long. Luckily for me they were adventurous with me and allowed me to take them into the road, on rocks, laying on blankets, in the middle of the forest... and all the while Anna was amazing walking in her heels! I hope these pictures are lasting memories of how their first year of marriage has been, and I look forward to seeing their relationship continue to grow!

Dana is such an amazing and sweet person! When I got the news from My Carolina Town that Dana was going to be a part of the cover and I read a little bit about her story (pick up a magazine to learn more), I immediately said this needs to be a couples shoot. I know personally that I could not do half of what I am doing without the love, help, and support of my husband... and Dana said the same thing about Brian!! I truly feel that a wife is only as good as the husband who stands beside her, and both Dana and I have amazing ones. Once she talked with Brian and he agreed to be a part of our little photo shoot I got inspired by my friend Sarah at Sweet Scene Cakes to do a Cake Smash Session... but of course we wanted to make sure we got some amazing shots of the cake and the two of them first! So below is the journey that commenced until Dana, Brian and their super adorable boys got to dive in and "smash the cake"! Top 5 Outfit Ideas for Engagement or Portrait Session /
So last week I talked about some fun ideas for your engagement session, but what about what you should wear? This is the number one question I get asked by EVERYONE I photograph. And it is a good question to ask, it's not everyday you get photographed and you want to make sure the pictures look good. So I put together a list of the top things I mention when planning your outfits for your photo session. 1.) Know your Surroundings: Think about where you are getting your pictures taken. For example if you are in a field of sunflowers, it is probably a good idea to avoid green and yellow so you do not blend in to your surroundings.
2.) Change Outfits/Be Comfortable: I always encourage a change of outfits. Wear something that you are comfortable in but then maybe also wear something a little different than your norm too.
3.) Don't be Matchy Matchy: This is the big one. I always tell people to think of it this way. If you are wearing a pattern then you will want the opposite person to wear a solid or to layer a pattern with a solid. Choose colors that work well with each other and have accent colors from the patterned outfit be the solid for the other persons outfit. 
4.) Layer: Layering is amazing. Not only does it add depth and dimension to the pictures, it also can lead to some fun poses and the look of even more outfits (i.e. a jacket, it can be photographed on, slung over your shoulder, and then also taken off)
5.) Wear Something Fun: Life is meant to be fun, so not only should you wear something comfortable and something that represents your style... but also add something fun to it! Whether it is a favorite team jersey, cowboy boots, your favorite hat, any accessory will add to the session, your comfort level, and make the session a little more fun in the process!
